Word Services CM © Michael SchŸrig 1998 Ever wanted to spellcheck text selected in an application that does not directly support this? Then this plugin might be for you. If you've got a spellchecker that supports the Word Services Protocol you may (see below!) be able to use it from the contextual menu to check the selected text. Installation Drop the plugin onto your system folder. It will be put into the Contextual Menu Items folder. You have to restart your computer before you can actually use the new plugin. WordServicesCM creates a Word Services folder inside the Contextual Menu Items folder. There you can put aliases to Word Services server applications. It's a good idea to use aliases as their names are used instead of the names of the applications they are refering to. Where to find out about Word Services in general? Have a look at . There's also a list of applications that support the Word Services Protocol. Know Shortcomings & Unresolved Issues WordServicesCM needs to do some wizardry to sneak into applications. - In principle it can only work in applications that support AppleScript reasonably well. If you find an application that does have decent AppleScript support, but where WordServicesCM doesn't work at all, please contact me. - It won't work with some Word Services "servers", i.e. applications that supply a service like spellchecking. In these cases the server will check the selected text, but when it comes to write back the changes to the selection it will get messed up. Sorry, I don't know of anything I can do about that. Cool things to do with this plugin If you're fond of writing scripts in Perl you'll probably already have MacPerl. I've written a MacPerl Extension that allows you to save Perl scripts as Word Services Servers that are usable from applications that act as Word Services "clients" and with this plugin in particular. Version History 1.0 First public release Disclaimer You might have guessed it already, but I take no responsibility for the consequences of anything this plugin does to your computer. If you think this is unacceptable, just don't use it. That's it for now. I appreciate any bug reports and suggestions. Michael SchŸrig
